Where these stories come from

The Pearl and Duplex naming stories are adapted from the previous Lore Corner, which attributes them to the Pearl community Discord. That page did not include a message permalink or date, so these are presented as attributed community accounts, not independently verified quotations. The spork chapter is sourced to the supplied Rafael Pass talk transcript. The red-string section describes Pearlified’s own editorial identity.

A NEW ARCHIVE NOTE / BEFORE THE MINING RIGS

## First, there was the unwanted email.

Research edition / 22 September 2026

Long before the current AI-compute story, researchers asked whether sending a message should cost a little computation.

Moni Naor’s research page traces that idea to his 1992 work with Cynthia Dwork. It is a historical thread worth following—and Naor later supervised Ilan Komargodski’s doctorate.

### Computational pricing → research lineage

The history connects people and questions. It does not make the old proposal and Pearl the same protocol.
